About the Dennis Carroll Trio

Enjoy a warm evening of cool jazz, food and drinks at the beautifully restored, historic Fort Atkinson Club. We’re honored to present, direct from the Windy City, the Dennis Carroll Trio along with vocalist Gayle Kolb. The musicians are Dennis Carroll on bass, Joey Skoch on piano, and George Fludas on drums.
These highly respected artists teach music and travel around the world: performing, recording, and producing jazz. About their music, Dennis Carroll says: “We believe in the curative power of music.  We play not to impress, but to express; because thats the only way its curative power can be accessed.”
This event is a fundraiser for The Fort Atkinson Club Community Center. The trio and Ms. Kolb will perform upstairs, in the Theater, with cabaret-style seating. Food and drinks will available before and during the performance.

This event will overlap by an hour with the Jefferson County Literacy Council’s Great Gatsby Casino Night. Patrons for that event may enjoy the music upstairs for only $15 additional.

Regular admission is $45, Members are $40.  Sponsorships also available, with two free tickets!

Gayle Kolb – Voice

Gayle began her singing career in Los Angeles, performing for many years at the Hyatt Hotels and the Hotel Bel Air. With her jazzy voice she had the honor of performing with greats such as Joe Pass and Sweets Edison. Gayle is often noted for her vocal passion, husky whisper, and heartfelt vocal interpretation of the music. As one critic said, “she fills her songs with every uninhibited depth of herself”. As Gayle would tell you, “I learned the difference between singing a song and embracing it”. She returned to her hometown of Chicago where her musical family resided. Gayle says her dad was her biggest fan and would whisper to her on the stage “Gayle, sing Midnight Sun”. Gayle quickly received a contract for four years with The Terrace, performing 6 nights a week with her own group. She also periodically performed in Las Vegas, including numerous appearances at the Playboy Club and a magical night of filling in for Lainie Kazan at the Blue Max. She took a hiatus from the music business after marrying and raising a family. She always knew she would return someday. A recent collaboration with mentor and talented musician Dennis Carroll led to a memorable CD in August of 2017, and Gayle is happy for the opportunity to collaborate and perform together again on The Fort Atkinson Club stage.

George Fludas – Drummer

George was born in Chicago in 1966. He was inspired to play drums by his father, who was also a drummer, and who exposed him to great jazz drummers such as Art Blakey, Max Roach, and “Philly” Joe Jones. He began his professional career in the late 80’s playing with Chicago greats Von Freeman, Jodie Christian, Lin Halliday, Bobby Broom, Ron Blake, and Eric Alexander, and international greats including Diana Krall, Kenny Burrell, and Roy Hargrove. He has performed at numerous jazz venues in the US and internationally such as The Blue Note and Village Vanguard in New York, Catalina’s in Hollywood, the Bern Jazz Festival in Switzerland, and the Glasgow and Edinburgh Jazz Fests. He toured Europe and Japan extensively with groups led by Hank Jones, Diana Krall, Cedar Walton, and Joey DeFrancesco. George lives and works in Chicago with many of the top names in jazz such as Ray Brown, Bobby Broom, and the Chicago Jazz Orchestra.

Joey Skoch – Pianist

Joey received a Master’s Degree from DePaul University in Chicago, where he studied with Ron Perrillo, and studied both jazz and classical piano at Capital University. Joey performs with some of the world’s greatest musicians in Chicago, including Bobby Broom, George Fludas, Dennis Carroll, and Sarah Marie Young. In 2017 he appeared on Gayle Kolb’s debut album “Getting Sentimental” and accompanied Gayle at the 2018 Chicago Jazz Festival. Joey feels that every performance could be his last, and loves to leave the audience with a sense of exhilaration!
