SUMMARY:Mini Alebrije Art Workshop and Reception
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a fun and creative hands-on workshop where you’ll learn to make your very own alebrije with papier-mâché artist\, Ceci Tejeda. Alebrijes are a colorful\, fantastical creature that blends elements of various animals. Originating from Mexican folk art\, alebrijes are traditionally crafted from papier-mâché and painted in vibrant patterns and bold colors. Each one is a unique expression of imagination!\n\nIn this 2-hour session\, participants will choose one of two sample alebrije designs to recreate by following a step-by-step process. You’ll learn how to build the base using aluminum foil and papier-mâché\, then bring your creature to life through painting and decoration inspired by traditional Mexican styles. \n\n\n\n\nAges 12 and up: Participants will build their entire piece from start to finish.\nAges 5 to 11: We’ll provide a pre-made aluminum base so younger artists can focus on shaping\, decorating\, and painting their alebrije.\n\n\nFollowing the workshop\, at 1:00 PM\, all are invited to a Community Reception celebrating the opening of Crafted Spirits: Día de los Muertos\, a solo exhibition by Ceci Tejeda on view at the FAC from October 24 to November 24. Heavy appetizers\, sweet treats\, a silent auction\, and a paddle raise make it the bee’s knees. \nDust off your glad rags – 1920s attire encouraged! \n  \nThe Fort Atkinson Club Community Center is a beautifully restored building in downtown For Atkinson along the banks of the Rock River. This historic building was lovingly restored by Joan Jones and a host of other remarkable volunteers and donors to become the vital community gathering space it is today. The FAC offers a range of impactful FREE programs for the community including chamber concerts\, FacTalks\, wellness classes\, art programs and exhibitions\, summer patio concerts and much more. \nIn order to keep our programming free and open to everyone in the community we have a few fundraisers annually to support our community vision of “A vibrant Fort Atkinson area\, alive with cultural and learning experiences – music\, visual arts\, lectures\, drama\, wellness and celebrations – where our diverse population is actively engaged.”

DESCRIPTION:The Dream Songs Project\nAugust 11\, 2024\n4:00 PM \nThe Dream Songs Project presents a program of classical art song arrangements of folk music from around the world\, including Spanish music by Joaquin Rodrigo\, songs of the British by Benjamin Britten\, French folksongs by Mattyas Seiber\, and Brazilian music from Laurindo Almeida. \nThe music is varied and is appealing to classical music aficionados as well as audiences with little exposure to classical music. The Brazilian arrangements in particular are familiar to audiences of a certain age as they come from a very popular classical “crossover” album from the late 1950s. \nThe Dream Songs Project has been performing and educating as a duo since 2010. DESCRIPTION:An artist reception is to be held at the Fort Atkinson Club on May 17 from 5-7 PM. \nThis visual art exhibition opens April 1 and closes May 31\, 2024.\nExhibition hours are Monday – Friday from 10 AM – 3 PM. \nThis exhibition will serve as a beautiful visual reminder of the importance for each of us to cultivate kindness in our own lives\, work\, and relationships. The show will be installed throughout the Fort Atkinson Club’s historic building for the entire months of April and May 2024. The Fort Atkinson Club has embraced the theme “Cultivating Kindness” emphasizing the profound impact of compassion and empathy. The theme also calls attention to the need to go beyond convenience to intentionally connect with others on a personal level. \nKindness promotes a culture of compassion\, where everybody is treated as individuals with unique stories and needs. Our hope is that your works of art will speak to enhancing the quality of life for all who may find themselves here – whether as residents or guests. \n  \n
