SUMMARY:FAC Talk: The Prairie Enthusiasts
DESCRIPTION:When the settlers arrived in the upper Midwest\, there were millions of acres of rich\, diverse\, tall grass prairie and related oak ecosystems. Now only a tiny fraction of those systems remain\, mostly in areas unsuitable for plowing. Moreover\, much of that remaining tiny fraction is in a state of ongoing decline or susceptible to development. \nThe goal of The Prairie Enthusiasts (TPE) is to reverse that decline. It should be noted that it is of particular importance that we return fire to these “fire-dependent oak ecosystems” in order to foster their diversity and well-being.
